The European Movement went into overdrive when the general election was announced. As most of you will know, they produced and launched their own Manifesto on Europe, as well as creating a survey platform where people could canvass their prospective candidates on their views. This was very successful and the results can still be accessed on the EM website.

The EM Executive, particularly its Chair, Mike Galsworthy, and CEO Nick Harvey have also been very active in the media, securing multiple TV appearances.

Latest news

Since the election, there have been a number of other notable events. Mike Galsworthy teamed up with Phil Moorhouse on his “A Different Bias” YouTube channel for a discussion on “Labour’s dash to repair EU relations”. Not only was this video viewed fifty-two thousand times, it also resulted in an increase of more than seven hundred EM members.

There was also an excellent EM webinar (also referred to in our “Looking on the bright side” article), where the discussion centred around what we might expect next from the new government, and it was a very positive event which you can see here.

Another very fast response from EM came when it was announced that Keir Starmer was hosting 47 European leaders at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on Thursday 18 July, for the European Political Community Summit. The European Movement drafted an open letter to the Prime Minister, asking him to take various steps towards improving the damage done by Brexit and this was emailed out to the member base for signature. As I write, the number of signatures was close to sixteen thousand.

Lastly, hot off the press, with the third National Rejoin March due to take place on 28 September (date to be confirmed), the European Movement have just voted to join many of the regional 4EU groups and become official NRM partners. This should mean that they will be more in evidence at the next march and, hopefully, it will help to swell the numbers. It needs to be big!
