When the day arrives, you must be registered to vote and you must have acceptable Voter ID, and only certain types will count.

Firstly, make sure that you are registered to vote. You can check and/or register online here.

Visit the government website to check voting options and then make sure you have the required photo ID here.

If you don’t have the necessary ID you can apply for a postal vote, or you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate here.

Don’t forget, all these processes take time, so apply as soon as possible, but well before the deadline dates shown above. Also check with other people that you know who may not be registered, especially youngsters who might be eligible to vote for the first time. They are the ones who are most likely to be unaware of exactly what’s involved.
